Fern scales are very rarely found in Victorian collections. They are generally gummed in a rosette of 8 scales with a few more rotund scales placed in the centre, being mounted in Canada balsam. These scales are from Cheilanthus sinuata which is found in arid parts of the southern United States. These scales are also a xerophytic adaptation. |
